IN-FORM Carlos Sainz has his sights set on a sixth points finish in a row at Sunday’s French Grand Prix.

The Spaniard, who drives for the Enstone-based Renault team, heads to Circuit Paul Ricard in a confident mood after his eighth place in Canada a fortnight ago.

It took Sainz’s tally for the season to 24, lifting him to ninth in the driver standings.

The 23-year-old is in high spirits ahead of the French Grand Prix – which will be the first since 2008.

He said: “I feel we are making good progress every time I go on track and this is translating into points, shown at the past few races.

“It’s good to be consistent and to keep picking up points at every race.

“That’s the target every weekend, so let’s make it six in a row in France.”

Teammate Nico Hulkenberg sits eighth after recording his fifth top-ten finish out of seven races in Montreal.

The German has driven at the track before when preparing for the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2015.

But he has made sure he will be fully prepared ahead of Friday’s practice sessions.

Hulkenberg said: “Completing laps on the simulator is a good starting point, and we’ll be spending a day at Enstone going through set-ups and trying to get some data on board before we head there.

“Then it’s about working hard with your engineers, learning and listening, before putting it all into practice and trying to get as many laps as possible chalked up through the Friday and Saturday.”
