OXFORD United boss Karl Robinson is keen to have another look at Michael Doughty in the next few days before making a decision on the midfielder.

Doughty played 75 minutes on trial in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who is a free agent after leaving Peterborough United in May, did his cause no harm with a tidy display.

Robinson saw enough to keep him around next week.

He said: "We needed as holding midfield player - we think we need two more in that position.

"We were just having a little look to see where he was at.

"He’ll train on Monday and play a game next week, then we’ll have a game next week, if he wants to.

"This was the first game he’s played and he’s not trained. He did OK, didn’t he?

"He did better than anyone else in midfield, which says it all for the rest of them."

Doughty came through the youth set-up at Queens Park Rangers, but made only 16 appearances in eight seasons.

He had loans with six clubs, including Swindon Town, where his spell included the 2-0 defeat to the U’s at the Kassam Stadium in 2016.

Doughty left Loftus Road in 2017 for an undisclosed fee when he signed a three-year contract at Peterborough United.

But after scoring twice in 42 appearances he was surplus to requirements under Steve Evans and agreed for the final two years of the deal to be cancelled by mutual consent.
