SWIMMING: Juniors are to the fore

Witney's youngsters gave the club the ideal start to the Chiltern League with a comprehensive victory in the first round gala at Dunstable on Saturday.

It was Witney's consistency throughout all age groups which proved too much for the other competing teams who were left trailing in Witney's wake.

Nine-year-old Oliver Bealand produced two determined freestyle swims and earned himself the club's swimmer-of-the-match award, with the runners-up vote being shared between Daisy Merriman and Tanja Wolf.

Excellent individual efforts also brought victories for Bethany Locke (freestyle), Skye Tanner (backstroke), Nathan Piper (backstroke & breaststroke), Jake Kinahan (backstroke), Jake Cockroft (butterfly & breaststroke) and Rowan Prosser (backstroke).

Personal bests were achieved by Daisy Pratley (butterfly), Holly Coulson (freestyle), Amy Tuckey (breaststroke), Chloe Smith (butterfly), Jack Kendall (freestyle), Rowan Prosser (breaststroke), Philip Bennett (butterfly), Mark Kemp (breaststroke), Harry Blackford (freestyle), Oliver Sharpin (butterfly) and Sam Bark (individual medley).

Final result: 1 Witney 204pts, 2 Putteridge 167, 3 Bourne End 152, 4 Letchworth 150, 5 Dunstable 148, 6 Houghton Regis 141.
