Witney's young swimmers showed plenty of promise when they took the runners-up slot in the junior novice graded gala at Wellingborough.

Competing in only her second gala for the club, nine-year-old Holly Coulson produced two super swims in backstroke and butterfly to earn herself their swimmer-of-the-match award.

The runners-up votes were shared between debutant Josie Gillingwater for her performances in the freestyle and breaststroke, and Jenna Parry for her fine victory in the girls' 11 & under breaststroke.

Other Witney winners were Stephen Bennett (butterfly), Aimee Felstead (backstroke) and Megan Sulley (butterfly).

Result: 1 Rushden 223pts, 2 Witney 137, 3 Kettering 136, 4 St Neots 115, 5 Wellingborough 106, 6 Linslade 103.

Witney personal bests: G Kendall (freestyle), J Possee (butterfly), H Blackford (breaststroke and backstroke), R Frost (backstroke), S Bennett (breaststroke), O Beland (butterfly), S Skinner (freestyle), E Fraser (breaststroke).
