SWIMMING: Witney are too quick for title!

Witney had to settle for the runners-up spot in Division 1 of the Chiltern League after their final round at Linslade.

There were plenty of excellent performances, and it was only the penalty of five speeding tickets - all by less than half a second - which prevented them from taking the title for the third successive year.

Fourteen-year-old Sam Bark was in impressive form, achieving personal bests in the men's open freestyle and butterfly, earning himself the swimmer-of-the-match award.

The runners-up vote was shared between the rapidly improving nine-year-old Holly Coulson (winner of the girls' ten & under breaststroke) and Bethany Lock (girls' 14 & under freestyle).

Other wins were achieved by Ellen Moore (breaststroke), Naomi Moore (IM), Marc Colling (butterfly), Philip Bennett (backstroke), Rowan Prosser (backstroke), Redd Pratley (freestyle) and Jake Cockcroft (breaststroke).

Result: 1 Rushden 177pts, 2 Witney 150, 3 Linslade 137, 4= Putteridge, Leighton Buzzard 118.

Witney personal bests: C French (backstroke), K Hoare (breaststroke), E Garbutt (breaststroke), G French (backstroke), R Prosser (breaststroke), D Frost (backstroke), C Lambert (butterfly), J Kendall (backstroke), F Dawkins (IM).
