CRICKET: Hubbert is the hero for Minster

Fifteen-year-old Ashley Hubbert was the hero for Minster Lovell as they started their Division 1 campaign with a six-wicket victory at Westbury on Saturday.

Needing 16 to win from the final over, the youngster smashed two sixes as Minster sneaked home with just a ball to spare.

Earlier, Westbury's new signing, New Zealander Ben Rae, hit a magnificent 126 in his side's 230-9.

Bill Bowman (67) and Billy Carter (66no) were Minster's key batsmen, before Hubbert's late heroics.

Charlbury began their season with an 86-run victory over Oxford Caribbean.

Captain Rob Garrett hit 85 in Charlbury's 184 all out, Shimron Thomas taking 5-28.

In reply, Caribbean collapsed to 98 all out, thanks to Craig McCallum's 4-34.

East Oxford thumped Eynsham by 155 runs in Division 2.

Tauqeer Hussain scored 85 and Sarfraz Hussain 55 in East Oxford's 271-7.

Tauqeer and Mohammed Sarfraz then took three wickets apiece as Eynsham slumped to 116 all out.

Freeland opened their campaign with a six-wicket win at East & West Hendred.

Andy Warren and Kevin Hole took three wickets apiece as Hendred were bowled out for 141.

David Ackland (60no) steered Freeland home, Sam Walker chipping in with 39 not out.

Ben Redknap scored a maiden league century as Stonesfield beat Uffington by nine wickets in Division 3.

Batting first, Uffington posted 156-9, Steve Willis scoring a half century.

But the total never looked like being enough as Redknap finished unbeaten on 101 and Jamie Burns 43.

Alan Williams bowled a miserly spell of 4-6 in ten overs as Witney Swifts saw off Clifton Hampden by seven wickets.

Morley Benson's 81 was the highlight of Clifton's 153 all out, but after Williams's haul, Jason Seacole (66no) and youngster Charlie Fisher (35no) saw Swifts to victory.

Charlbury 2nd began their first season in Division 4 with a 13-run win at West Witney, with Charlie Sinton the star of the show.

He scored 45 in Charlbury's 147 all out, before Tim Jarvis (4-38) and Sinton (3-17) combined to dismiss West Witney for 134.

Tim Knight took 6-22 as Combe thumped Hailey by nine wickets.

In Division 5, Danny Harding hit 72 as Chadlington began with a two-wicket victory at Cassington.

The home side were dismissed for 136, before Harding saw Chadlington home, despite 5-17 from Vaughan Roberts.

Swinbrook lost by four wickets at Great Horwood 2nd.

Batting first, Swinbrook reached 149-7, Rob Grant hitting 31.

But Gary Lee (41no) and Darren Sirett (31) saw Horwood to victory.

Stanton Harcourt went down by 47 runs against Chesterton in Division 6, despite an amazing burst by youngster Elliott Graham.

Graham took four wickets in ten balls as Chesterton were bowled out for 140, but Stanton fell to 93 all out.

Matty Lake scored 69, but it was not enough as Eynsham 2nd slipped to a nine-run defeat at home to Shrivenham 2nd.

The visitors scored 192-8, Pete Jones taking 3-19, before Eynsham were restricted to 183-6.

Freeland 2nd went down by four wickets at home to Horley 2nd.

Ady Buckingham's 44 took Freeland to a below-par 124-9, which Horley passed, despite 3-19 from Martin Symonds.

In Division 7, Robin Hanks and Kevin Sherbourne took five wickets each to inspire Stonesfield 2nd to a 74-run victory over Marsh Gibbon 2nd.

Marsh Gibbon were dismissed for 72 with Sherbourne taking 5-13 and Hanks 5-24.

Steve Masters (33) earlier steered Stonesfield to 146-8.

Kilkenny were well-beaten as they lost by 93 runs to Hook Norton 2nd in Division 8.

Hooky rattled up 237-6, before Kilkenny were bowled out for 144, only Jason Penn (53) showing any resistance.
