Witney had to settle for fifth place in a tough second round National League Gala at Bromsgrove.
With many of the races being decided on fingertip touches, it was always a tight contest, especially in the closing stages, with only seven points separating the minor placings.
Fourteen-year-old Adam Colling continued his encouraging development with a comprehensive victory in the 15 & under breaststroke to earn the club’s swimmer-of-the-match award.
The runner-up vote went to Harry Hall following his personal best in the boys’ 13 & under 100m freestyle.
Stalwart Graham Cable demonstrated all his old skills with a well-judged win in the men’s open breaststroke, while other personal bests were achieved by Aimee Felstead (backstroke), Ottilie Uden (backstroke) and Nathan Harkin (butterfly).
Result: 1 Mansfield 223, Wyre Forest 200, 3 Brierley Hill 163, 4 Redditch 162, 5 Witney 156, 6 Cheltenham 132.
