SWIMMING: Youngsters sweep the board


Witney's A team were edged into runners-up slot by the host club in the second round gala of the Home Counties League at Wellingborough.

There were plenty of close finishes between the top two teams, although Witney’s 15 & under boys’ team comprising Adam Colling, Harry Hall, Nathan Harkin and Callum McLean once again showed their class with a clean sweep in all six of their events.

Impressive displays from Imogen Pitson and Matthew Floyd brought clear victories in the 11 & under girls and boys breaststroke and earned them the swimmer-of-the-match and runner-up votes respectively.

Result: 1 Wellingborough 270pts, 2 Witney A 267, 3 Luton B 176, 4 N Pagnell 145, 5 Houghton 124.

Other Witney A winners: C Clavaud (IM), C Smith (breaststroke), K Gorman (butterfly), S Tanner (freestyle), Y Speare (backstroke & freestyle), A Whiteley (breaststroke), K Hoare (breaststroke), J Bark (butterfly), G Cable (breaststroke), T McLean (freestyle).

  • WITNEY B produced some encouraging displays against other clubs’ A teams in their second round gala at Lynslade.

Fourteen year old Sam Bark’s excellent effort in the boys’ 15 & under butterfly earned him the swimmer-of-the-match award, the runner-up votes being shared between Daniel Harkin (winner of the men’s IM and breaststroke) and Daniel Possee (winner of the men’s open freestyle).

Result: 1 City of Oxford 229, 2 Leighton Buzzard 223, 3 Bicester 200, 4 Lynslade 177, 5 Witney B 165.
