SWIMMING: Awesome foursome are county champs

Witney & District’s under 16 boys’ relay team were crowned Oxfordshire junior champions in three events as the club excelled at the Oxon & North Bucks County Championships in Aylesbury.

Daniel Harkin, 16, James Bark, 16, Daniel Possee, 15, and Tom McLean, 15, took the gold medals in the 4x50m and 4x100m medley relays as well as the 4x50m freestyle relay, in which Bark, Possee and McLean all posted 25 second split times.

The quartet also took gold in a number of individual events, with Bark and Harkin achieving trebles in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly and breaststroke races respectively.

Harkin also picked up a trio of victories in the 100m, 200m and 400m individual medley.

Witney’s boys added to their gold medal haul with more individual successes for 14-year-olds Nathan Harkin and Adam Colling.

Elsewhere, 15-year-old Yolanda Speare also acheived triple success, winning her 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events.

Competing in their first county championships, nine-year-olds Callum Jones, Liam Hatton and Imogen Pitson also excelled, winning five gold medals between them.
