SWIMMING: Witney get off to a flier


Witney's youngsters got off to the perfect start in the 2009 Milton Keynes Junior League when they took a convincing victory in the first round at Aylesbury.

For some of the swimmers, it was their first taste of competition, and the performances of the nine-year-old age group was particularly en-couraging.

Alex Harry, Katie Nutt, Abigail Patrick, Lauren Leese and Emma Jensen-Bowerman took double firsts in the girls’ relays, while Harry Watkins, Ben Prosser, Luke Wilby, Josh Ascroft and Hugo Thessieu secured first and second for the boys.

Two outstanding swims from Emogen Pitson brought emphatic wins in the ten & under girls’ breatststroke and butterfly to earn the club’s swimmer-of-the-match award.

Result: 1 Witney 253pts, 2 Aylesbury 223, 3 Bicester 162, 4 Putteridge 124, 5 Thame 120, 6 Newport Pagnell 112.
