FOOTBALL: Hole's brace caps six-goal send-off
5:11pm Wednesday 2nd May 2012 in Sport
North Leigh showed just why they are Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West’s leading goalscorers with a devastating display at Hungerford on Saturday.
Despite being out of the race for a play-off place, Mark Gee’s side were 4-0 ahead at half-time after giving the home side a lesson in slick passing and clinical finishing.
The Millers went ahead in the 19th minute when Elliott Osborne-Ricketts fired home from ten yards.
Tom Franklin doubled the lead three minutes later, heading home a Kieran Sanders free-kick.
Brian Bowles curled in No 3 in the 26th minute as the visitors took complete control.
North Leigh keeper Sam Warrell pulled off a great double save to preserve the lead, and three minutes before the break it was 4-0 when Stuart Hole fired in from 30 yards.
Joe McClennen pulled one back for the hosts at the start of the second half, but Morgan Williams restored the four-goal lead.
Matt Pedder and an own goal from Andy Caton made it 5-3, but Hole’s header five minutes from time sealed an impressive victory.
Boss Mark Gee said: “It’s disappointing to miss out on the play-offs, “But we left ourselves with too much to do after Christmas.
“We finished sixth for the second time in a row and we got more points than last season.
“We also won the Oxfordshire Senior Cup, so it’s not been a bad season.
“If we could start next season with the side we finished with on Saturday, then we could be a top-five side.
“We can’t give teams a head start like we did last season, we have to start much better.
“But we enjoyed the season.”
