HOCKEY: Gatt bags winner as ladies get off mark

Skipper Katie Gatt scored the winner as Witney got off the mark in South Clubs Women’s League Div-ision 3A with a 2-1 success against Wallingford.
Charlotte Manning put Witney ahead, only for Tas-mynn Motramm to level, but then Gatt struck to seal the win from a penalty corner.
Witney got back on track in Men’s South League Reg-ional Division 2 with a 5-2 win at home to Eastcote 2nd.
Ben Wells put Witney ahead and although the visitors equalised, Justin Peel rest-ored the hosts’ lead.
Eastcote made it all-square, but a double from Tim Hardy, both from short corners, and Jacob Deacon’s strike eased Witney’s nerves.
In Division 4, Witney 2nd let slip the lead twice in a 3-2 loss away at Old Merchant Taylors.
Tom Yallop gave Witney the lead, and though the hosts to level, only for Scott Summers to put Witney back in front.
Witney 3rd fought back from a goal down to beat Marlow 4th 2-1 in Division 6, thanks to goals from Sam Hook and Dave Vermeulen.
