Steve Naylor suffered disappointment in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham on Sunday.
Naylor, from Combe, was expected to lead Oxfordshire’s challenge, but dropped out on the second lap.
“The legs just had no running in them,” said Naylor.
“Maybe the three races in three weeks in February took their toll.”
James Bolton produced a solid run to help his Oxfordshire teammates to a mid-table finish.
The 40-year-old Woodstock Har-rier finished 183rd overall on a very muddy course, which was cut short to 11km because of the underfoot conditions.
Bolton recorded 39mins 20secs to be Oxon’s sixth-scoring runner as the county finished 17th out of 34 teams.
