Sophie Carter competed among some of the world’s best in finishing 15th at Sunday’s Morrisons Great South Run in Portsmouth.

Carter, who is from Woodstock, but competes for Belgrave Harriers, completed the 10-mile route in 1hr 6secs.

Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot, who won silver in the 5,000m and bronze in the 10,000m at the London 2012 Olympics, was victorious in 51.17, with Britain’s 10,000m European champion Jo Pavey second in a time of 52.44.

In the elite men and masses race, James Bolton led the way for Woodstock Harriers, crossing 41st, while Brian O’Connor set a personal best of 57.34 to finish 53rd.

Teammate Denise Bridges set a Vet 45 club record by finishing in 1.10.41, while Susan Haines beat the Vet 55 mark with 1.27.47.

Kevin Game, Pete Brackett and Alan Harrison set personal bests.

Witney host the Oxford Mail Cross-Country League on Sunday.
