RACHEL Masser was the top local finisher in the first round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Ascott-under-Wychwood.
The Woodstock runner was second in the women’s race, clocking 24mins 6secs, just 14 seconds behind winner Sophie Crumly (Newbury).
Clubmate Jessica Webb was fifth (24.21), while Eynsham’s Hannah Hale was two places further back in 24.27.
Witney’s Dan Blake was the pick of west Oxfordshire’s runners in the men’s race.
He crossed the line eighth in 30.56 ahead of tenth-placed James Bolton (Woodstock, 31.14).
The pick of the junior races was in the under 9 girls and boys, which was won by Witney’s Oscar Oweka.
Clubmate Matthew Lock (20.02) was eighth in the Under 15/17 boys event.
