Great & Little Tew found Aston Rowant’s batsman Damian Shirazi too hot to handle as they went down to a seven-wicket defeat in their all-Oxfordshire Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West match at Great & Little Tew on Saturday.

Shirazi scored an unbeaten 104 as the visitors raced to a routine success after dismissing Tew for 178.

It was a third successive defeat for the home side, who will be hoping to arrest this dip in form to prevent them slipping down the table.

Rowant were on top from the moment that Karl Penhale dismissed both Joe White and Ed Gross cheaply after choosing to bowl first.

Harry Smith and Curtly Slatter added 52 for the third wicket, before the former was run out for 31.

Slatter followed shortly afterwards to make it 68-4. Then three wickets for Gordon Harris saw Tew slump to a disastrous 111-8.

The rest of the innings was held together by Lloyd Brock, who hammered a defiant 79 from 110 balls with 11 fours.

He received useful support from Liam Manley in a ninth-wicket stand of 60.

But last man Ian Bryan did not last long, and their total of 178 seemed inadequate in the fast-scoring conditions.

Matt Woods struck an early blow by dismissing Tim Morgan for one, but Shirazi dominated the rest of the innings.

He made an unbeaten 104 from 153 balls, with one six and nine fours, to help Row-ant ease to victory in the 45th over.

Nick Ferraby and Chris Wat-ling lent him useful support, while Andy Harris and White put in tidy spells for Tew, but to no avail. Great & Little Tew 5pts, Aston Rowant 25
