Will Watt’s magnificent unbeaten century proved in vain for Oxford Downs as they had to settle for a draw at Abingdon Vale in Cherwell League Division 2 on Saturday.

Skipper Watts finished 112 not out after his side had been inserted, which helped Downs post 225-8 from their 53 overs.

He brought up his century in 140 balls, his knock containing ten boundaries.

Left-arm spinner Paul White returned 4-51 from 13 overs.

Joe Butcher top-scored for Vale with 39 as they batted out the overs to secure a draw. Harry Sutton was the pick of the Downs’ attack, with 3-41.

Young opening batsman Steve Dobson scored his maiden Cherwell League century, but it was not enough as Sandford St Martin had to settle for a draw at Bledlow Village.

Dobson bludgeoned 108 and Chris Thompson hit 50 in Sandford’s 265-8, Tom Moore and Joe Harman taking three wickets apiece.

Thompson then claimed 5-34 for Sandford, but Bledlow were left clinging on at 161-9.

Great & Little Tew 2nd failed to cope with the menace of Robert Keat as they lost by 115 runs at home to Didcot.

Aiden Kammel hit 84 and Shaun Burningham 74 as Didcot were bowled out for 252, Kev Taylor taking 4-36, and Lawrence Brock (3-66).

However, Tew were shot out for 137 as Keat took centre stage with 8-73.

Great & Little Tew 2nd 7pts, Didcot 25 Ian Lewis’s maiden league ton helped Shipton 2nd to a 33-run win at home to Dinton 2nd in Division 3.

Shipton were in some difficulty at 139-6 when he came to the crease, but he hit 12 fours and three sixes in a 94-ball 104, as Shipton made 261-9 from their 53 overs.

Valentin Giroud then took 3-32 as the visitors were all out for 228.

Oxford Downs 2nd beat Bicester & North Oxford by six wickets.

Phil Warson hit 61 in Bicester’s 124 all out, Steve Roberts taking 4-26.

Darryl Woods top-scored with 40 as Downs reached 127-4.

Pierre Le Fort took 7-36 to earn Witney Mills a seven-wicket win at Leighton Buzzard 2nd in Division 4.

Buzzard were shot out for 147, thanks to Le Fort before Peter Claridge (43) and Malcolm Evans (43no) led Mills to 151-3.
