Great & Little Tew took full advantage of the weather to move back to the top of Division 2 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.

With only one other match beating the rain, Tew’s seven-wicket win at Cove saw them jump from third to ten points clear at the top.

Matt Woods was the hero, picking up 5-42 off 20 overs as the hosts were dismissed for 131 in the 52nd over.

After Tew skipper Andy Harris won the toss and opted to bowl first, Woods ripped through the top order, taking the first five wickets.

With the hosts in trouble on 48-5, Cove decided to defend everything.

Although Najeeb Malik and Andrew Short put on 71 for the sixth wicket, it was painfully slow.

They started blocking out 45 minutes before lunch, and negotiated a tricky spell to survive unscathed.

When Cove did try and increase the tempo after the interval, they saw wickets fall regularly.

Having not picked up a victim in his opening spell, Lawrence Brock returned to the attack to dismiss the final three batsmen as Cove posted a below-par 131.

In reply, Tew made a good start with Joe White (45) dispatching any loose deliveries to the boundary.

Although they lost three wickets for three runs in the middle of their innings, the result was never in doubt.

A partnership of 69 between Martin Coetzee and Jordan Garrett saw Tew home in the 29th over.
