Great & Little Tew stretched their lead at the top of Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 to 54 points with an exciting twowicket win at home to Finchampstead.

The result saw Andy Harris’s side increase their advantage over their west Oxfordshire rivals Shiptonunder-Wychwood with ten games now gone.

Chasing Finchampstead’s 218-9 after putting the visitors in to bat, Tew openers Joe White (58) and Jordan Garrett (49) gave the hosts a great start with 104 for the first wicket.

White’s runs came off 65 balls and included 12 fours.

Matt Clark (31) made a handy contribution.

But from being 183-4, Tew lost four wickets for just 24 runs, with Harry Smith, Ashley Hubbert, Clark and Robbie Shurmer all falling, before they got over the line at 219-8.

Max Uttley did the most to prevent a Tew victory by taking 5-59 for the visitors.

Earlier, Matt Woods (3-42) had been the pick of the home attack in Finchampstead’s innings, which was built around William Rogers’s 62 from 106 deliveries, including seven fours.

Matthew Jones (45) and Max Stevenson (39) played the other notable innings.

This weekend Tew travel to Datchet.

Shipton-under-Wychwood, in second place, fell further behind the leaders with a four-wicket defeat at home to Buckingham Town.

The hosts were indebted to an unbeaten 92 from Stuart Hole as they were bowled out for 200 after choosing to bat.

Hole’s runs came off 115 balls and included 14 fours, but he received precious little support as Sam Smart (5-54) ripped through the top order.

Leigh Tomlinson (61no) and Rob Large (58) then played the leading roles to take Buckingham to victory at 201-6.

Tomlinson hit nine fours in his 93-ball stay, while Large was more fluent with seven fours and a six off just 50 deliveries.

On Saturday, Shipton host Oxfordshire rivals Aston Rowant.
