Great & Little Tew’s Division 2 title hopes suffered a setback when they lost by 90 runs away to lowly Oxfordshire rivals Aston Rowant in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League on Saturday.

Young Jordan Garrett achieved the rare feat of batting through the innings but could not save Tew, who still head the table by 16 points.

After being put in to bat, Rowant were given a fluent start by Chris Watling, who made 39 off 48 balls, in an opening stand of 70 with Andrew Tolson.

Dan Matthews maintained the momentum with an excellent innings of 78 from just 100 deliveries, which contained ten fours.

At 147-4, the innings was in the balance, but Matthews then shared a fifth-wicket partnership of 85 at a run-a-ball with Morrick, whose unbeaten 72 came off 75 balls and contained nine fours.

Rowant finished on 260-5 from 58 overs.

Morrick and Gordon Harris soon reduced the visitors to 37-3, before Garrett and Robbie Catling added 59 for the fourth wicket.

Catling then became the first of five quick victims for left-arm spinner Adam Muttitt, who destroyed the middle order as six wickets fell for 25.

Garrett surveyed this wreckage from the other end with a classy 78 not out, but Morrick (3-48) returned to polish off the innings for 170 in the 48th over.

Muttitt finished with a match-winning 5-30 in 11 overs.

Anupam Sanklecha turned in another super display for Shipton-under-Wychwood, claiming eight victims in their seven-wicket success away to bottom club Dinton.

Sanklecha took 8-70 from 20.4 overs, as Dinton, who had been put in to bat, were bowled out for 160.

This was despite an enterprising innings from Dinton opener Alister Gibbins, who struck 70 from 86 balls with nine fours, before being six out at 120.

Sanklecha was given good support by left-arm spinner Shaun Miller, who took 2-34 from 16 overs.

Shipton eased home without alarm in the 34th over, thanks to Craig Wood, whose 54 included 11 fours, and Simon Hole, who was 47 not out when victory was achieved.

The result lifted Shipton to joint fourth in the table.

This Saturday, Great Tew entertain Cove, while Shipton travel to take on Datchet.
