A DISASTROUS batting display proved costly for Great & Little Tew, who slipped to third bottom in Division 1 of the Home Counties Premier League with a six-wicket defeat at Burnham.

The visitors actually chose to bat after winning the toss, but only opener Harrison Smith (33) offered lasting resistance.

He went through a succession of partners, with Dain Moreton, Joe White and Curtly Slatter departing without troubling the scorers.

At 25-5 they were in trouble and never recovered.

Aside from Smith, only Jordan Garrett and the extras column reached double figures as Tew stumbled to 82 all out.

Burnham got into minor difficulties as Liam Manley took two wickets to help reduce them to 39-4.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors, whose attempts at successfully defending the low total were ended in the 26th over.

Anupam Sanklecha and Calvin Dickinson starred in Shipton-under-Wychwood’s eight-wicket win in their basement battle with Gerrards Cross.

Skipper Charlie Brain had said before the game his side simply had to come out on top – and his plea was answered in style.

First, Sanklecha recorded outstanding figures of 7-52 as Gerrards Cross were dismissed for 152 in the 38th over.

Dickinson then took over with the bat, turning the reply into a formality with a blistering 84 not out from just 47 balls – an innings which included nine fours and four sixes.

Andrew Hemming also hit a more pedestrian 38 in support for a Shipton side who wrapped up a convincing victory in only the 24th over.

The win, only their second of the campaign, lifted them above Thame Town into seventh position.
