A SUPERB opening stand between Harry Smith and Jordan Garrett led to Great & Little Tew dominating their drawn Division 1 match at home to high-flying Henley on Saturday.

Smith (83) and Garrett (90) put on 176 for the first wicket.

Both departed within five runs, but useful innings from Dain Moreton and Curtly Slatter took Tew, who failed to reach three figures the previous week, to 258-8 dec from 61 overs as left-arm spinner Gurveer Singh took 5-58.

Henley never looked like reaching this total as only one of their top order reached 30.

The improving Joe Thomas turned in a super spell of 3-23 in 14 overs to reduce the visitors to 113-7, but dogged defence from Euan Woods (44no) and Tom Nugent saw Henley close at 168-7.

Shipton-under-Wychwood were involved in a thrilling run chase at home to Buckingham Town which finished as a draw with the scores level

After being put in, the visitors rattled up 279-6 from 58 overs thanks to a consistent display topped by Steve Brunning’s 60.

A second-wicket stand of 112 between Andrew Hemming (55) and Calvin Dickinson, whose 82 came from 98 balls and included five sixes, put Shipton in prime position at 153-1.

Joe Barrett (45no) and Anupam Sanklecha (38) maintained the momentum. It all came down to Shipton needing five runs off five balls and one off the last, but Shaun Cross was bowled to leave the hosts on 279-8.

Shipton were awarded two extra points as the team batting second with the scores level.
