JAKE Halsey’s superb five-wicket haul helped Hanborough lift the Telegraph Cup following a 48-run victory over Division 3 champions Eynsham at Faringdon.

Batting first in Sunday’s final, Hanborough were indebted to an excellent 50 from Joe Burgess as they were bowled out for 135.

Dave Harris was the pick of the Eynsham attack with 4-16, while Tom Prentice returned figures of 3-21.

Despite the low total, Hanborough wrapped up the trophy in style as they ran through the Eynsham card.

Only Ben Smitten (37) made double figures as man-of-the-match Halsey returned magnificent figures of 5-34 in his 12 overs.

Jonathan Ayris chipped in with 3-27 as Eynsham were shot out for just 87.

l THE OCA League title race will go down to the final weekend after Saturday’s programme was decimated by the wet weather.

Only two league games reached conclusions, with Division 1 leaders Minster Lovell and second-placed Faringdon both seeing their matches washed out while in strong positions.

At Stonesfield, Minster reached 138-3 after 21 overs before the heavens opened.

Elliot Graham (49) and Harry Ebsworth (30) had put Minster into a strong position, but rain had the final say.

It was the same at Faringdon, who had reduced visitors Yarnton & Cowley to 108-6 before rain arrived.

On Sunday, Yarnton & Cowley defeated hosts Stonesfield by 21 runs.

Mohammed Zia Hameed top-scored with 53 as Yarnton posted 211-9 in their 45 overs, Tom Gubbins taking 3-38 for Stonesfield.

Tim Wyatt (74) led the hosts’ reply, but Hameed (4-28) and Muhammad Adil (3-44) combined to dismiss them for 190.

Division 3 was a complete washout, and with the title already wrapped up by Eynsham, Westcott will take the runners-up spot if they beat the champions on Saturday.

In Division 4, Swinbrook were one of only two sides to complete a match on Saturday as they beat visitors Hailey by four wickets.

In a game reduced to 25 overs per side, Hailey were bowled out for 111 as Stuart Bullen took a brilliant 6-34 and Joel King hit 49.

Rob Grant (48no) led Swinbrook to 112-6.

There was another result in Division 5, where Charlbury 2nd won by 43 runs at Chipping Norton 2nd.

Rob Collard’s 41 led Charlbury to 148-5 in their 25 overs.

Andrew Tompkins then hit 46 not out for Chippy, but Paul Jenkins (3-17) helped to restrict the hosts to 105-5.

Bampton were confirmed as Division 5 champions after their match at home to West Witney and Brill’s clash against visitors Great Horwood 2nd were both abandoned.

Combe, who have consistently proved far too strong for most of Division 7, virtually wrapped up the title courtesy of a weekend of 60 points.

Kilkenny 2nd conceded to them on Saturday, and on Sunday, they racked up a massive 245-run win at Wootton & Boars Hill 2nd.

Matthew Purssell smashed 121, Mark Westerby 63 and Chris Moore 55 not out as Combe amassed a huge 304-6.

Mike Eeley claimed 7-23 and Dave Gardner 3-31 as third-placed Wootton were shot out for just 59.
