OXFORD Downs were crowned champions of Cherwell League Division 2 despite their final match away to Cropredy being washed out.

Downs had hosts Cropredy at 72-2 before the match was abandoned, but with a similar fate befalling title rivals Abingdon Vale away to Sandford St Martin, the title was handed to Downs.

Vale had shot Sandford out for just 102 as Henry Pickford took 5-44 and Joe Butcher 3-36.

But the rain scuppered the match before Vale had a chance to reply.

Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd's relegation from Division 3 was confirmed, with their game at home to Great Brickhill 2nd also falling foul of the weather.

Before the rain arrived, Shipton had posted 222-8 declared, Tim Senior hitting 61 and Harry Davies 55.

But the rain intervened at tea, and the match was washed out.

In Division 4, Witney Mills were thumped by eight wickets at Stokenchurch.

It was the Arshad Latif show as he took 4-22 in Mills's 138-9 in 50 overs, before smashing a quickfire 96 not out to lead his side to 139-2 in the 20th over.

Sandford St Martin 2nd had to settle for second place in Division 7 as their clash with Long Marston 3rd at home was rained off, with Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts 2nd being crowned champions.

In Division 8, Great & Little Tew 4th fell to a nine-wicket defeat against visitors Brackley 2nd.

Sam English hit 31 in Tew's 100 all out, Brackley racing to 101-1 inside 15 overs to seal maximum points.
