Shipton-under-Wychwood proved no match for Division 2 leaders Dinton and slumped to a 97-run defeat on Saturday.

Dinton, put in to bat first in a match reduced to 105 overs after a delayed start, made light of awkward conditions to pile up 236-9 from their 58 overs.

Missing the pace of Ryan Newhook, the visitors could not keep the pressure on Dinton batsmen.

After Charlie Brain had dismissed Liam Gough – son of former England fast bowler Darren – Lee Marland and Mike Sutliff added 106 for the third wicket.

A total of more than 250 seemed on the cards, but some tidy bowling from Shaun Miller and Jason Hunt, who collected four wickets, limited Shipton’s victory target to 237.

That soon a looked monumental task as both Shipton openers Brain and Ross Barrett departed for ducks.

Much depended on skipper Simon Hole, but he was dismissed after speeding to 26 off 19 balls.

Spinners Shakil Ahmed and Alistair Gibbins then worked their way through the batting to bowl out Shipton for 139.
