FOOTBALL: Chippy have that little bit extra

Chipping Norton Res needed extra-time before getting the better of Spartan Rangers Res in a 5-3 home thriller in the Witney FA Jack Busby Memorial Trophy second round.

Nick Angus (2) and Tom Merchant put the visitors 3-0 up, only for Sam Philpotts (2) and Daryl Soper to level at 3-3.

Extra-time goals from Sam Thornton and Keiron Watts completed the turnaround for Chippy. Rob Collard bagged a four-timer as Kingham AB Res hammered Chadlington Res 7-2 away.

Martin Price, Kurtis Atkins and Lee Watson got the others, with Dan Townsend (2) hitting back. Doubles from Dan Paintin and Mikey Piper, and an Andy Cross strike earned Witney Royals Res a 5-1 home win against Aston Res. Alex Timms was Aston’s scorer. Division 3’s Carterton B fought back before beating FC Hollybush Res, from Division 4, 5-1 at home.

Angelo Aniello put Hollybush ahead, but goals from Lee Manning, David Anthony, Adam Harris, Ollie Bush and Matt Hubert sealed the recovery. Stephen Henderson and Paul Read scored for West Witney in a 2-0 win at Brize Norton Res. Gary Jones (2) and John Webb scored for Charlbury Town Res in a 3-1 win at Freeland B. New signing Dan Godden replied.

Ben Sunblad scored a 30 minutes hat-trick as Aston beat Stanton Harcourt 4-1 away in the Fred Ford Cup second round.

Matt Smith completed their tally, with Dan Smith replying.
