Henry Box School beat Witney rivals Wood Green School 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out to lift the Oxfordshire Schools’ Under 16 Cup at Carterton FC on Monday.

The final finished 1-1 after extra time, and Tom Allen, James O’Sullivan and Dan Townsend converted from the spot in the gathering gloom to give Henry Box a dramatic victory.

Henry Box had the better of the first half with Cain Camp-bell going close with a header, while George Lamb-ourne made a series of fine saves in the Wood Green goal.

Wood Green took the lead five minutes after the restart when Henry Macke took advantage of a mix-up in the Henry Box defence to fire home into the empty net.

Henry Box piled on the pressure with Calum McGin-ness and Dan Town-send denied by Lambourne, before McGinness fired home the equalier after 65 minutes from just inside the area.

Wood Green came closest to winning the game in extra time when they struck an upright before Henry Box triumphed in the penalty shoot-out.
