NORTH Leigh have been handed another home tie in the Emirates FA Cup after claiming a major scalp against Weston-super-Mare at Eynsham Park in the second qualifying round.

On top of the £4,500 prize money for the 2-1 victory against the Vanarama National League South side, John Brough’s side have a chance to continue their run.

Monday’s third qualifying round draw saw them paired at home to Folkestone Invicta of the Ryman Premier League – one tier below Weston.

Their goalscoring heroes at the weekend were George Seacole and Eric Odhiambo.

With Stuart Hole back in the starting line-up after suspension Jamie Cook having recovered from his hamstring injury, the hosts bossed the first half with the midfield of Elliott Osborne-Ricketts, Lance Williams and Odhiambo in charge.

Odhiambo skimmed the bar, while Cook and Osborne-Ricketts tested Weston keeper Luke Purnell before the Millers deservedly took the lead in the 40th minute.

An exchange of passes put Seacole clear of the visitors’ defence and his left-foot shot from right yards gave Purnell no chance.

Weston attacked at every opportunity early in the second half.

But with centre backs Wayne Turk and Hole shining, the hosts’ backline held firm.

Gradually, the Millers regained their grip on the game and added a crucial second goal in the 63rd minute.

Seacole broke down the right into the penalty area before slipping a pass to Odhiambo, who despite being surrounded by Weston defenders, clipped the ball into the corner of the net.

Three minutes later, later Weston hit back when Elliot Richards scored from close range to set up a tense finish.

Although the visitors pressed for the equaliser, they never really got close to troubling keeper Conor Thompson as the Millers hung on for an historic victory.

They are two wins away from the first round proper, but before they can think about extending the cup run there is a league fixture.

Gloucestershire outfit Slimbridge will host them in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West on Saturday, when a sixth win in seven games could take Brough’s men into the top five.
