NORTH Leigh’s historic Emirates FA Cup run came to an end in a 6-0 defeat at Vanarama National League side Eastleigh.

Ryan Bird hit four goals, with Andy Drury and former Oxford United striker James Constable also netting, as the home side cruised into today’s first-round proper draw.

The Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West visitors had Eric Odhiambo dismissed on the hour, but at 4-0 the tie was already over as a contest.

The Spitfires did not take long to show why they are 68 places higher in the football pyramid.

On ten minutes, Bird chased a long ball and coolly curled over goalkeeper Connor Thompson, who had been tempted into coming off his line.

The Millers were affording their hosts far too much space and paid the price.

Bird slotted home Mikael Mandron’s cross in the 31st minute and on the stroke of half-time it was 3-0.

Jai Reason’s beautifully-weighted pass found Drury, who lifted the ball over the stranded Thompson.

Bird completed his hat-trick after the break, firing into the bottom corner on 54 minutes, before Odhiambo was given his marching orders.

Booked in the first half, the winger hauled Reason to the floor to stop the Eastleigh man chasing a ball down the left, leaving referee Richard Hulme with no option but to show a second yellow card.

The hosts took advantage of the extra man as Bird and substitute Constable fired home from close range.

Thompson brilliantly kept out Luke Coulson’s free-kick late on, while the Millers came close to a consolation at the death but ex-Oxford United keeper Ryan Clarke denied James Murphy.
