JOHN Brough greeted North Leigh’s Buildbase FA Trophy first round draw away to Ryman League Division 1 South side South Park as a great opportunity to continue their fantastic run, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

The Millers secured their place in this stage of the competition for the first time with a tense 1-0 win at home to Kingstonian on Saturday.

And while they missed out on a clash with a big Vanarama National League side, the North Leigh boss believes it offers a big chance to progress.

“It’s a good chance for us to make it into the next round,” Brough said.

“I would have preferred a home game, to be honest, but it’s a side at our own level so obviously we feel we have a chance.

“But no doubt they’ll be thinking exactly the same about us.

“We want to go as far as we can, but games against sides from our own level are not necessarily easier than games against higher-placed sides.”

Like Brough’s side, the hosts are also making their first round debut, securing their place with a shock 2-1 triumph away to Vanarama National League South side Oxford City.

And while Brough has moulded the side into a fluid attacking force so far this season, he acknowledged that the trip to Surrey on December 10 may require the Millers to prepare themselves for a battle.

“We know that they’re not a footballing side and they’re very physical,” he said.

“We know exactly what we’re going to get, so it will come as no shock to us.

“They’ll take every opportunity to put the ball into our box, so we’ll have to deal with that and look to impose our own game on them.

“We defended very well under a lot of pressure on Saturday, so we’ve proven we can do it.”

North Leigh have earned £12,450 in prize money from their run.
