THE prospect of ending the last unbeaten home record in the Football League is an added incentive for Oxford United today, says Ryan Ledson.

Colchester United were the last team to win a league game at Valley Parade, 28 games and 13 months ago.

Add in the facts Bradford need points to secure a play-off place in Sky Bet League One and the U’s have nothing tangible at stake and for many it will be a home banker.

But Michael Appleton’s side have shown many times in the last two seasons they relish a challenge and Ledson is keen to take the Bantams’ scalp.

“It gives you a bit more drive if they haven’t lost at home all season,” he said.

“Let’s go and show we can beat them.

“We’ll go there and try to spoil the party.

“We’ll go there and will try to play our game. You can’t let the season fizzle out.

“You saw at Walsall (a 1-1 draw last weekend) when we went 1-0 down we could’ve thrown the towel in and not been bothered, but it means a lot to us.

“We’re professionals and your pride is at stake. That should mean a lot for all the lads.”

A minor shoulder problem makes Ledson a doubt for today’s game, but his season is far from over.

Selection for England’s squad at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup next month is on the cards for a player who was short-listed for the EFL’s young player of the year award last Sunday.

Exeter City’s Ollie Watkins may have scooped the prize, but it has still been a breakthrough campaign for a player who opted to leave Everton for the U’s last August.

“I just think I don’t score enough goals to win that award,” the 19-year-old joked.

“He’s a top player and (fellow nominee) John Swift is an unbelievable player as well, so to be up against those two was fantastic.

“This year has been fantastic for me, my first real season and to play as many games as I have I’m loving it.

“I always look back at the big games we played – Swindon, Newcastle, Middlesbrough.

“They are there with you for life now and they were absolutely unbelievable with the fans.

“Next season I want to kick on again and try to play more games and obviously I want to be successful.”
