JOHN Brough believes North Leigh can be happy with their achievements at the end of a hectic campaign, writes DAVID PRITCHARD.

The Millers wrapped up their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign with a 1-0 home win against high-flying Taunton Town on Saturday.

It saw them finish sixth in the table, five points adrift of reaching the play-offs.

While there was some frustration at just falling short, Brough’s men did so alongside setting new club records for best runs in the Buildbase FA Trophy and Emirates FA Cup.

They also reached the Oxfordshire Senior Cup final, where they played Oxford United last night.

It all adds up to a successful campaign for Brough, particularly in what was his first season in charge after Mark Gee’s 18-year reign.

He said: “We finished five points away from the play-offs.

“I can go through the season and say ‘we dropped two points there’, but most clubs can do the same.

“Overall, with it being my first season, which has seen a lot of transition, if we look at all that I think everyone can be really pleased with the outcome of the season.

“Maybe if we hadn’t had the cup runs we would’ve picked up the points to get us over the line, but we wouldn’t have swapped them for anything.”

Saturday’s Southern League finale was decided by Roger James’s late goal at Eynsham Park.

Defender Stuart Hole was, once again, in goal due to the unavailability and injury of the club’s regular keepers.

Taunton dominated, but a strong display from the hosts’ back four meant the makeshift stopper was rarely tested.

And on the stroke of half-time the Millers had an opportunity to take the lead when George Seacole was fouled by goalkeeper Lloyd Irish in the area.

However, the keeper saved Michael Hopkins’s penalty.

An even second half ensued and it was the home side who won it on 86 minutes when Seacole found James who steered home from six yards.

North Leigh: Hole, Lymn, M Williams (Cook 60), Turk (D James 74), Wellon, Sysum, R James, Thomas, Seacole, L Williams, Hopkins. Subs not used: Gunn, Wyatt.
