PEP Clotet has fired a warning to any clubs interested in signing his players – any departures will be on Oxford United’s terms.

The U’s manager has been bullish throughout the January transfer window that none of the squad’s key assets would be sold this month.

Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood is on Barnsley’s wish-list, but the most interest has come for Ryan Ledson.

The Oxford Mail understands the U’s have turned down a bid worth up to £1million from Preston North End in the last week.

Developing young players and selling them on at a profit is a key part of United’s business model and they have been very successful at it in the last two years.

Clotet has no problem with the interest from bigger clubs, but stressed the U’s would be calling the shots.

He said: “Teams from the Championship are looking at us and thinking ‘wow, that’s a good pool of talent’.

“I would like to have offers for every player we have, but I would like everyone to understand that it’s one thing to make an offer, it’s another to get the player.

“It has to be Oxford’s vision when to sell (a player) and it has to be on Oxford’s terms how to sell.

“That’s the mentality successful clubs, who produce good players, have been using.”

Ledson missed last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Walsall with a knee injury and he was expected at training yesterday despite suffering from a virus this week.

Clotet is certain the 20-year-old will go on to play at a higher level, but stressed the importance of leaving on good terms.

He said: “Ledson has done fantastically for us and he deserves to play in the Championship and the Premier League, because he’s a very good player.

“I’m 100 per cent sure he will work even harder now and he will show another level of performance which will help him and Oxford in the future.

“What I want is to help the players perform and when they leave this club they leave a good legacy, like Kemar Roofe.

“This is what I want Lego’s position to be, because he deserves to be there.”
