FOOTBALL: Moses fires five-star Witney into top spot

Witney Town went top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division with an emphatic 5-1 home win over Marlow.

Town gave debuts to Oxford City captain Wayne Blossom, signed on a dual registration, in a bid to regain match fitness, and goalkeeper Jamie Zoldan.

Ian Davies fired Marlow into a seventh-minute lead, but Ben Moses, making his first start, levelled from the kick-off.

Witney almost went ahead in spectacular fashion a minute later when Conor McDonagh’s bicycle kick from Jemaine Ferreira’s cross smacked against a post. But they didn’t have to wait long to take the lead with Moses firing home from 18 yards.

Town stretched their advantage before the break when McDonagh flicked the ball through for Nick Thorne to finish from close range.

Zoldan’s superb one-handed save early in the second half maintained Witney’s two-goal cushion.

McDonagh headed home James Dobson’s free-kick to make it 4-1, before captain Adam Morris sealed victory in injury time.

Carterton are second in Division 1 West following a 3-1 home win over bottom club Malmesbury Victoria.

Lewis Brownhill, Chris Mills and Adam Loveridge were on target, with Kevin Reape scoring for Malmes-bury.

Gareth Beale notched a double in North Leigh Res’s 4-2 home win over Letcombe.

Jozef Fullerton and Ryan Moore also netted, with Adam Bruce scoring both Letcombe goals.

Old Woodstock Town went down 2-1 at home to Cricklade Town.

Danny Bone volleyed Woodstock into the lead from a Murray Nicholls cross.

But second-half goals from Ben Carter and Adam O’Bree saw Cricklade take the points.
