FOOTBALL: West Witney close gap on leaders

West Witney closed the gap at the top of the Witney & District FA Premier Division to a point with a 2-1 home win over Ducklington, writes Anthony Barlow.
Dan King and Jon Fletcher scored for the hosts after Ben Hutter netted in the first half.
Leaders Chipping Norton dropped their first points in a 0-0 draw at home to Spartan Rangers.
Aston Leach bagged a brace in Hanborough’s 3-2 home win over Hailey.
Dan Smith also netted for the victors after Dean Mays and Joey King had scored for Hailey. Stanton Harcourt were indebted to a Dan Smith as his hat-trick gave the Division 1 leaders a 3-1 home win over FC Mills.
Nick Edwards scored for Mills, who failed to convert a penalty for the third game in succession.
Ben Sunblad bagged a brace in Aston’s 6-2 win at Brize Norton.
Ryan Hewer, Wes Dymond, Matt Brown and Warren Austin were also on target, with Dan King and Gerrard Morgan replying.
Nathan Harris fired a four-timer in Minster Lovell’s epic 6-5 win at Hailey Res.
Nathan Bennett and Steven Barker also netted for Minster, with a Mo Semlali hat-trick, Jon Andrews and Dan King making up Hailey’s tally.
Chris Lawrence (2) and Shane Imms were on target as FC Nomads won 3-1 at home to Kingham AB.
Dom Hemmings scored for the visitors.
Jamie Kennedy smashed home a four-goal haul in Witney Royals Res’s 6-1 home win over Charlbury Town Res in Division 2.
Dan Paintin and Lee Beer got the other two.
West Witney Res closed the gap on Eynsham SSC at the top with a 4-0 home win over Combe.
Matt Townsend, Adam Bolley, Karl Roberts and Jamie Goodwin did the damage.
Craig Horne bagged a brace in North Leigh B’s 2-2 draw at Ducklington Res.
Tom Madden and Martin Ferreira scored for the hosts.
Jack Eaglestone delivered a double in Middle Barton’s 4-2 home win over Bampton Town.
Martin Kay and Ashley Scearce were also on target with Ollie Hawkins and Jamie Hawkins replying.
Joe Hatt fired a five-timer as FC Hollybush continued their 100 per cent start in Division 3 with a 8-2 demolition of Chipping Norton Town Res.
Paul Dray (2) and Bradley Olive completed the rout, with Sam Philpott bagging both goals for the visitors.
Minster Lovell Res also have maximum points following a 5-2 home win over Freeland B.
Arrun Mullis (2), Adam Bennett, James Hurn and Liam Crawford were on target, with Richard Stanley and Mark Buckingham hitting back for Freeland. Craig Isle and Ollie Bush bagged braces in Carterton B’s 4-0 home win over Aston Res.
Ollie Puddle hit a hat-trick as Brize Norton Res picked up their first win of the season with a 7-4 victory at Spartan Rangers Res.
Shaun Rawlings (2), Rob Brown and Gary Taylor also netted, with Pete Jenkins (2), Dexter Lancaster and Shane Brown the Spartan scorers.
Scott Mason hit a hat-trick in Ducklington A’s 9-0 trou-ncing of hosts Eynsham SSC Res in Division 4.
Josh Hartley (2), Nathan Haggis, Jacob Souch, Will Brown and Aidan Forde completed the scoring.
