Freeland were edged out 4-3 at Mansfield Road in a seven-goal Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division spectacular.
Soufian Kessabi did the damage for Mansfield with a double, with James Watkins and Matt Wells also on target for the hosts.
Nathan Langford, Alex Bush and Danny Taylor all scored from set-pieces in reply for the visitors.
Freeland Res crashed 5-2 at home to Bletchingdon Res in Division 2.
Jamie Perkin and Rob Belcher netted for Freeland, with Ben Jameson (2), Mark Penner, Joe Goodgame and Jack Mort on target for Bletchingdon.
Goals from Tom Rawlings, Tom Gerken, Tom Pickett, Dave Pryce and Jonny Room saw Eynsham Res make it three wins in a row with a 5-1 victory against Yarnton Res, for whom Tom Knoy netted.
