FOOTBALL: Clinical Carterton keep up charge

Carterton moved up to fourth in Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West with a 3-1 win at Purton on Saturday.

Steve Avenall put the host in front with only a minute gone when his header looped over Mike Hedges in the Carterton goal.

The visitors were level on 31 minutes. Full back Sam Farr’s diagonal ball over the top of Purton’s defence found James Fleming, who chested it down before finding the corner of the net.

Eight minutes later, Carter-ton took the lead. Kris Redford’s pass picked out Fleming, who took a touch before firing into the corner.

It was all over on 72 minutes when Carterton scored No 3. George Seacole combined with Fleming before nipping past the last defender, rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net.
