Kevin Lewis notched a brace as North Leigh battled into the third round of the Linaker Insurance Brokers Cup on Saturday.
The Hellenic League Premier Division high-fliers were made to work hard for this victory, and only two goals in the last ten minutes put the result beyond doubt.
The home side went in front against the run of play. A corner from the left was punched out by North Leigh keeper Richard Barrett, but only as far as Pegasus striker Simon Gwynne, who scored with a low shot.
North Leigh hit back almost immediately, when Simon Futcher's shot was parried and Joe Burnell, following up, steered the ball into the corner of the net.
Ten minutes before the break, the visitors were in front when Liam Hope chased a long ball down the left, crossing to Kevin Lewis, who netted the simplest of chances.
Early in the second half, Pegasus were back on level terms when North Leigh's defence were caught napping and Chris Jones headed past Barrett.
But this spurred North Leigh back into action and both Mark Lewis and Mark Dennis missed good chances.
Ten minutes from time, North Leigh were back in front when Mark Lewis and Futcher combined to set up Mark Dennis, then with five minutes left, the result was put beyond doubt.
From Futcher's corner, Kevin Lewis unleashed an unstoppable dipping volley from 25 yards to secure victory.
