Adam Wells helped himself to a hat-trick as Yarnton marched into the second round of the Oxfordshire Senior League's Ben Turner Cup with a 5-2 home win against Broughton & North Newington on Saturday.
Owen Bunce and Senan Simmons were also on target for the home side, with Jonathan Bedding bagging a brace in reply for the visitors.
Freeland Res battled their way to a 2-1 victory away to Garsington Res in Division 2.
The hosts started the stronger and only a superb display from Freeland’s keeper Adam Lonsdale ensured that the sides went in goalless at the break.
Freeland went ahead early in the second half, thanks to an Adi Williams strike.
The game should have been over as a contest when Dan Alsworth’s shot found the back of the net for Freeland’s second.
However, Garsington then turned up the pressure, which paid off ten minutes from time when Zak Betnay clawed one back.
Garsington then turned up the heat, but Freeland held on for victory.
