Jamie Cook and Callum McNish both netted twice as free-scoring North Leigh added to Wantage’s recent misery with a 5-0 victory in Saturday’s Division 1 South & West derby at Alfredian Park.

The Millers hit the ground running with a goal after five minutes, but they had to wait until the second half before turning their dominance into four more goals against the hosts, who never gave up.

On a tricky playing surface, North Leigh secured an early lead with a textbook goal.

Michael Hopkins cut in from the left wing and put in a high cross to Cook who headed the ball over the outstretched arm of keeper Gareth Tucker.

Wantage’s centre backs skipper Stuart Cattell and Daniel Warne, proved a tough nut to crack as the visitors mounted more attacks.

Kieran Sanders thought he had doubled the lead, but it was ruled out for offside, while McNish thudded a shot against the angle of bar and post.

Wantage’s best attempt came from Jake Johns, who fired just wide.

After Cattell left the field with a head injury, the visitors capitalised with four goals in the second half.

North Leigh made it 2-0 early in the second half. Morgan Williams beat his marker on the left and crossed for Cook to tap home his second from close range.

Despite playing up the slope, the Millers continued to dominate.

McNish made it 3-0 following good work from Elliott Osborne-Rickettsand Williams, before substitute Andy Caton added No 4.

Wantage substitute Johnny Haist tested keeper Matt Bulman with Wantage’s best effort of the half.

Caton then laid on North Leigh’s final goal for McNish, who tapped home from close range in the 88th minute.
