HOOK Norton’s adventure in the Emirates FA Cup shows no sign of slowing down as they prepare to host National League South side Weston-super-Mare in the second qualifying round.

Joe Davies’s side, playing in the competition for only the second time, made it three victories in a row with a 1-0 success at Eastbourne United.

North Leigh also have a home draw on September 26, following a 3-2 win at Chessington & Hook United.

Their reward is a very winnable tie with fellow Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West outfit Slimbridge.

Hooky grabbed the limelight, though, taking their prize money earnings to £6,425 with a hard-fought win in Sussex.

Their heroes were keeper Kurt Fox, who saved a penalty, and Luc Thornton, who fired home an 84th-minute winner.

The penalty save came in the 20th minute, after Liam Painter had been upended by Hooky defender Dan Watkin.

Fox had no trouble saving Liam Baitup’s poorly-struck spot-kick.

To add to Baitup’s misery, he then had an effort ruled out for offside.

With the wind at their backs, the Oxfordshire side dominated the second half and deserved their late winner.

Thornton struck the knockout blow, slotting past the Eastbourne keeper to the delight of their supporters.

And while they are only one of three teams from step six of the non-league pyramid left in the competition, the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West side may fancy their chances of going even further.

Weston are enduring a poor start to the season and sit bottom of National League South.

North Leigh, who have a perfect seven wins from seven league games, were made to work hard for their victory at Chessington, from the Combined Counties League.

Morgan Williams put Mark Gee’s men in front with a freekick in the 32nd minute, following a foul on Elliott OsborneRicketts.

Defender Lewis White smashed in from close range to make 2-0 in the 48th minute from Kieran Saunders’s long free-kick.

Chessington pulled a goal back two minutes later, when James Duke bundled the ball over the line.

Williams sealed the Millers’ win with his second in the 78th minute.

Freddie Myers’s 90th-minute strike came too late to save Chessington & Hook.

North Leigh, who lost to Flackwell Heath in the preliminary round last season, will be favourites to progress after being paired with Slimbridge, who lost 4-2 at Eynsham Park last month.

Before then both sides will be aiming to avoid being distracted by their cup exploits.

North Leigh head to Swindon Supermarine in the league on Saturday attempting to stretch their winning run in all competitions to ten games.

Hooky turn their attention to the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.

They host Tytherington Rocks in the first round.
