North Leigh’s dismal run of form in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West continued with a 2-0 defeat at Bishops Cleeve on Good Friday.

And after their home game against Marlow was postponed on Easter Monday due to a waterlogged pitch, Mark Gee’s side now find themselves 20 points off the play-off places.

In wet and windy conditions on Friday, North Leigh fell to a third successive league defeat.

Jon Steedman and George Seacole went close for the Millers during a goalless first half which saw good football at a premium because of the strong wind.

Visiting keeper Ben Taylor clawed a wind-assisted high ball off the line after the break, before Elliot Kennedy hit the bar.

Due to a hailstorm, the match was stopped for seven minutes.

But after play resumed, North Leigh went close through Seacole, whose effort was pushed over the bar.

With nine minutes to go, the hosts took the lead out of the blue. Skipper Kirk Layton unleashed a speculative right-foot shot that caught the wind and flew into the top corner, giving Taylor no chance.

The Millers tried to fight back, but were caught out two minutes from time.

Aaron Drake crossed from the right, and substitute Shane Bumphrey was on hand to head past Taylor at the far post from close range.

North Leigh bid to end their disappointing run when they host Marlow tonight in a rearranged clash.

North Leigh: Taylor, Else, Steedman, Turk, White, Brown, Seacole (L Williams 88), Elkins, McNish, Osborne-Ricketts, M. Williams (Woodley 80). Subs not used: Hole, Foster.

Attendance: 72.
