LANCE Williams’s late winner booked North Leigh a place in the second qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Ryman South League leaders Corinthian-Casuals, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

It netted the Millers £3,000 in prize money and a home tie in the next round.

Monday’s draw paired them with Vanarama National South side Weston-super-Mare.

It is the second successive season the Somerset outfit have visited west Oxfordshire, following a 2-1 win at Hook Norton 12 months ago.

North Leigh boss John Brough was delighted with the way his side responded to a poor first half.

He said: “I did say at half-time I would have taken a draw, because it was a bit of a scrappy first half.

“I thought we conceded two really sloppy goals, but going in at 2-1 down I always felt we were in with a chance.

“In the second half we were like a different team.

“We took the game to them and the pressure told in the end – it really was a game of two halves.

“We’ve worked really hard on getting the ball out wide and putting balls into the box, so to score three goals from headers shows that it’s paying off.”

The Millers took the lead in Surbiton on nine minutes when George Seacole saw his initial header saved, but Williams was on hand to glance home.

Casuals responded four minutes later through Shaun Okojie and the same player stunned the visitors to make it 2-1.

John Brough’s team emerged for the second half a different side and Seacole headed home the equaliser on 55 minutes.

The Millers searched for a winner and had to wait until the 89th-minute when Williams rose highest at a corner and his looping header found the net.

Brough’s side visit Taunton Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West on Saturday.
