JOHN Brough pledged to finish the job he started at North Leigh after turning down an offer to fill the vacant manager’s position at Cirencester Town, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Brough had talks with the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division strugglers over the weekend, but opted to remain with the Millers.

He said: “For me, it was the wrong time to leave North Leigh.

“I’ve only just joined and I enjoy working with the players as well as with the chairman.”

The Millers could make history this weekend if they defeat visiting Ryman League Premier Division side Folkestone Invicta to reach the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time.

Brough believes the cup run could have long-term benefits for the club.

He said: “It’s a great chance for us to get some finance in and to lift the profile of the club.

“Games like this can put a football club on the map.”

Two second-half goals from the in-form George Seacole helped North Leigh end Slimbridge’s unbeaten record with a superb 2-0 away victory in Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

It was an uncompromising display from the Millers, who also had a penalty saved late on.

The visitors, who lost striker Jamie Cook with a knee injury early on, had the better of the first half, with Seacole seeing a powerful header cleared off the line.

Just before half-time, they were awarded a penalty, but Lance Williams’s spot-kick was saved by Adrian Kowalski.

The Millers deservedly took the lead in the 50th minute, when Seacole netted with a shot on the turn that took a deflection before finding the net.

They sealed the points in the 82nd minute when substitute Roger James set up Seacole, who scored from 15 yards.

The Millers hosted Shortwood United last night.
