NORTH Leigh manager John Brough believes his side have ‘nothing to fear’ from Saturday’s trip to Folkestone Invicta in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy, writes Matthew Bruce.

The Millers have already knocked their hosts out of one cup competition, upsetting the Ryman League Premier Division side 3-1 in the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup last month.

And Brough feels his side should take heart from their earlier exploits.

He said: “Saturday is a one-off game, so we can go there without fear and hopefully with a bit of confidence.

“If we get a result it will be an upset, but we’ve done that a few times already this season.

“It’s nice going into a game where you’re not expected to get the result, because it takes a bit of the pressure and expectation off your shoulders.

“When you’re underdogs you do tend to lift your game a bit.”

A George Seacole double and a goal from captain Wayne Turk secured North Leigh a surprisingly comfortable victory over their higher-league opponents when the two sides last met.

But Brough is anticipating a very different kind of encounter when his side travel to Kent this weekend.

“It’s very different circumstances this time around,” Brough warned.

“Our form is not as good as it was at the time and they’ve picked up a bit.

“With us, we could play the same team every week and we’d get a different result every time. I think sometimes if you’ve beaten a side before you think you can just do the same thing again and it’ll be easy. It doesn’t work like that.

“They maybe took us a little bit lightly last time and we gave them a shock, but they’ll want revenge this time.”

For the Millers, a break from their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West campaign is welcome after losing their last three league games, conceding nine times in the process.

North Leigh’s defensive frailties were exposed again on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 at Wimborne Town and Brough has insisted on improvement this weekend.

“Our league form has been so disappointing over the last month or so,” he said. “From an attacking perspective our performances have been pleasing, but we’re shipping way too many cheap goals.”
