FREELAND continued to defy the odds with a 2-1 victory away to Headington Amateurs in the third round of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.

They are the last Oxfordshire Senior League side in the competition after their shock success over Uhlsport Hellenic League opposition.

The visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Danny Taylor netted from a tight angle.

But Ben Green equalised from close range early in the second half for Headington.

Midfielders Dean Mays, Liam Harris and Jefferson Harriot did well to keep the home side at bay, as Freeland were forced to play on the counter.

Luke Cuff hit the outside of a post for Headington before Taylor headed the winner from Tom Weedon’s cross.

Freeland’s reward is a fourth round tie at home to either Hook Norton or Easington Sports, who play this evening.

4th round draw: Freeland v Hook Norton or Easington Spts, Oxford City Nomads v Thame Rgrs, Henley Tn v Thame Utd.
