DIDCOT Town were indebted to keeper Leigh Bedwell as they recorded back-to-back Evo-Stik Southern League victories for the first time in 2017 when they won 2-0 at home to Wimborne Town.

Bedwell saved a penalty to help the Railwaymen keep their first clean sheet in Division 1 South & West since early December.

It took just four minutes for the hosts to go ahead, as Ben Whitehead’s free-kick was met by George Reid whose header beat Gerard Benfield.

Wimborne raised their game, but were unable to test Bedwell.

Then just before half-time, they were awarded a penalty when Joe Lovell was brought down by Stuart Cattell.

But Tobias Holmes’s spot-kick was saved by Bedwell.

The hosts had a penalty of their own six minutes into the second half when Reid was tripped in the box.

Whitehead’s kick was parried into the path of youngster Ross Tanner, who fired under Benfield for his first senior goal to double Didcot’s advantage.

The visitors continued to be denied by Bedwell, who had a brilliant game between the sticks.

His best save came when he denied Holmes.

North Leigh went into their game at Yate Town without a recognised keeper, and suffered a 3-2 defeat.

First-choice keeper Manny Agboola was injured, while deputy Lewis Clayton was recalled by his parent club Cheltenham Town at short notice.

Outfield player Morgan Williams filled in between the posts and did a fair job, but the fact that the Millers were also missing Stuart Hole nor Matt Sysum, meant their defensive resources were stretched.

This was evident as they fell 3-0 down.

Jamie Cook flicked a header just wide for the visitors, before Yate took the lead in the 35th minute.

A long throw-in was flicked on to Jack Ball, who sent a looping header over Williams into the net.

Ball made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute while Mayson Evans added their third goal.

The North Leigh rally started on the hour when Roger James fired home.

Michael Hopkins hit the bar with a fierce shot, and then pulled another goal back in the 74th minute when his shot-cum-centre went into the net.

However, the Millers’ five-match winning run came to an end.

North Leigh: M Williams, Lymn, Wellon, Thomas, D James, Gunn, R James, L Williams, Seacole, Cook (Turk 57), Hopkins Subs not used: Tinsley, Hole, Wyatt.

Relegated Wantage Town conceded their 100th goal of the campaign as they crashed 7-0 at Salisbury.

Tommy Wright scored four times – including one from the spot ,while other goals came from Claudio Herbert, Eddie Perrett and Taurean Roberts.

A cracking goal from Lewis Coyle capped Kidlington’s comfortable 3-0 victory away to Potters Bar Town in Division 1 Central.

The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute with a well-placed header from Lewis Gabbidon.

Anaclet Odhiambo doubled their advantage in the 51st minute after good work from his brother Eric and Callum Harvey.

Ten minutes later, Kidlington sealed the victory when Coyle scored with a free-kck from 30 yards.
