TWO goals in the first ten minutes from Tom Winters and Conor McDonagh set Banbury United on the way to a convincing 5-1 victory at home to Dorchester Town.

Mike Ford’s team dominated Saturday’s opening South Premier clash of the season from the moment Winters put them ahead in the eighth minute following the pacy McDonagh’s pinpoint cross.

Just two minutes later and it was 2-0.

A wayward pass from Dorchester defender Chris Clark was intercepted by McDonagh.

The ball fell to Jefferson Louis, who centred from the right for McDonagh to fire high into the roof of the

net.

Though Dorchester had a decent amount of possession, they fell further behind in the 22nd minute.

McDonagh was again involved.

After collecting a throw-in on the edge of the Dorchester penalty area, he found the forward-running George Nash, who had the time to stroke the ball low into the bottom corner of the net from 15 yards.

The visitors went close to pulling a goal back when a 25-yard shot from Neil Martin was tipped round a post by home keeper Jack Harding.

Eight minutes into the second half, Banbury made it 4-0 when a corner from the left was met with a superb towering header from Luke Carnell, the ball flying into the top corner of the net from 12 yards.

After Harding made a great save to deny David Jerrad, Banbury made it 5-0, when Louis fired home from Winters’s pass.

Dorchester pulled a goal back when Matt Peake-Pijnen brought down Kyle Egan inside the penalty area.

Jerrad converted the spot-kick in some style striking the ball high into the top corner of the net.

Leam Howards and Ravi Shamsi had chances to add to the tally as the Puritans finished on top.

NORTH Leigh suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat by Bristol Manor Farm on the opening day of the South League West campaign – despite taking a 2-0 lead.

The Millers made a perfect start, taking the lead after 15 minutes when midfielder Eddie Stevens netted from Sean Wood’s pass.

The same pair combined again to double the home side’s lead after 29 minutes when Wood’s pass found Stevens, who netted with a lob.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 33rd minute when Dean Stamp shot over keeper Connor Thompson

After the break, the Bristol side turned on the style to rip through the home defence and score four more goals through Ben Bament (2), Jack Durrant and Rand Stamp.

Kidlington twice fought back to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Yate Town.

The visitors took the lead in the 25th minute when Mike Baker smashed home a free-kick.

But the hosts levelled immediately, when the elusive Mark Bell powered home a 20-yard shot.

Anaclet Odhiambo, playing for the first time alongside his brothers Eric and Eddie, had an effort ruled out for offside just before the break.

Yate retook the lead through striker Brad Norris in first-half injury time.

In the second half Kidlington certainly upped the ante and made it 2-2 in the 77th minute when Lewis Coyle scored from the penalty spot after Anaclet Odhiambo had been tripped from behind.

Didcot Town’s 1-0 defeat away to Bideford Town was a tale of two penalty decisions.

With the start delayed for 15 minutes after Railwaymen got caught up in holiday traffic on the near 200-mile journey, they competed well in an even first half.

However, disaster struck early in the second period, when Didcot defender Cam McNeill conceded a penalty with a clear foul, Billy Tucker scoring from the spot.

Later in the half, Didcot expected to be awarded a spot-kick for a foul on George Reid. But to the disbelief off both sides, the referee awarded a goal kick.

Leigh Bedwell came to Didcot’s rescue with three super late saves, which prevented a heavier defeat.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell, Jeacock, McNeil, Elkins, Cattel, Learoyd, Humphries (Barder), McNish, Reid (Hayden), Joyce, Woodley. Subs (not used): Thomas, Holloway, Ballard. Attendance: 353.

Thame United marked their return to this level, with a 2-1 win away to Chalfont St Peter in South League East.

However, they went behind inside two minutes when Gary Burrell netted home from a corner.

They had the ball in the net again shortly afterwards, but it was disallowed for offside.

The visitors levelled in the 29th minute when Tom Ashworth set up Lynton Goss, who netted from an acute angle.

The winning goal came in the 59th minute when Adam Morris fed Ashworth, who pushed it wide of the advancing keeper.
