NORTH Leigh face a tough test in the Emirates FA Cup first round qualifying after beating Highmoor Ibis on Saturday.

The Millers’ reward for the 3-1 victory is a home tie, but against Evo-Stik South League Premier side Biggleswade Town on September 2.

John Brough’s side came within 90 minutes of reaching the first round proper last season and they always looked favourites to win the preliminary round tie in Berkshire.

Michael Hopkins saw his free-kick tipped over the bar for the Millers in the 15th minute.

But the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier hosts could not keep them out for long.

Eddie Stevens opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, when he slotted home after George Seacole had beaten his man on the left and squared.

Seacole made it 2-0 three minutes later, tapping into an empty net after Connor Waldon collected a cross from Hopkins and steered the ball past the goalkeeper.

North Leigh went in search of a third goal to kill the game off in the second half.

Hopkins had an effort parried into the path of Roger James, who pulled his shot wide from five yards.

Highmoor came into the game as the second half progressed, but 15 minutes from time the Millers’ safe passage was assured.

Hopkins was again involved, crossing for Seacole to grab his second goal of the game with a bullet header.

It meant Alfie Grant’s late goal was nothing more than a consolation for Highmoor.

The Millers have two South League West fixtures in between their cup ties.

They visit Evesham United next Tuesday, but first up is a home game against Salisbury this Saturday.
