FOOTBALL: North Leigh bag vital victory

North Leigh 2, Henley Tn 1: New signing Lee Keyes was denied a goal on his debut for promotion-chasing North Leigh, but an inspired performance from skipper Joe Burnell earned his side victory in the Hellenic League Premier Division on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Henley almost took a shock lead soon after the break, but Richard Barrett made a point-blank save to deny Michael Turner, before Leigh then took control with two goals in two minutes.

First, a Gary Murphy free-kick was headed back into the Henley area by Darren Maisey for skipper Burnell to fire home on 49 minutes, and two minutes later Simon Futcher headed in.

Henley pulled a goal back on 67 minutes as Turner bundled the ball home at the near post.
